A sympathetically restored haven for collaboration.

The Project

Commissioned by a mining entrepreneur (with access to the towns first flushing toilet) Bay Space has hosted a number of start-up businesses in its time.

At the point of being taken over, it was a solicitors office, with a full renovation carried out to convert it into a number of offices, kitchen space, café and yoga studio.

Features

Full rewire and replumb.

A fire strategy and alarm system, CCTV throughout.

The creation of a new lift shaft and lift.

Extension on piled foundations which was the only new element.

Refurbished and regenerated existing internal doors to bring to a satisfactory and compliant state.

The protection of flooring and refinished throughout.

All windows were maintained and refurbished.

Restoration of Victorian ceilings.

Repointing of external stonework.

Worked around some features that the architects were desperate to keep, for example turned a safe into a toilet.

Sympathetic restoration.

Narrow access, tight site.
